Mayor Kim Janey

Kim Janey is a well-loved leader in Boston's nonprofit and public sectors. She served as Acting Mayor of Boston for eight months in 2021, and is the first woman and first black person to serve in the role of Mayor in the city.

I was inspired to customize her sneakers to represent what she stood for as Acting Mayor and in her former role on the Boston City Council, as well as the level of strength and conviction she displays outside of the public sector.

Her Converse Chuck Taylors feature her likeness as used prominently during her campaign for Mayor, as well as hand drawn images representing her fight for affordable housing, safe and efficient public transportation, and community safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The artwork features a comic book theme and also depicts local landmarks like the Zakim bridge and the Boston skyline. A reflection of her campaign colors, Janey's kicks prominently feature the colors purple and orange on one side and blue, yellow and purple on the other.
